A Man
05/30/05

A man walked out of the abyss
Supreme over the other beings
The animals in the field
Were no match for his feel
He conquered them all
The plants and trees fell under his spell
All was his to do as he will
Oceans could not hold him back
Nor the skies could keep him in check
For over it all he had control
Control out of control
Leaving his mark
Where ever he'd go
Leaving the earth ravaged
Where trees once grew
Yet he questioned all he knew
Where was he from if not of this earth
Was he created or evolved of matter and stuff
Tiny organisms from watery scum
Becoming a matter that grew and grew
Into a being that would rule
Evolving a mind capable of
Questioning itself and all this stuff
Or was a supreme hand
Involved in evolving man
A God reaching to earth
And in his image creating birth
Giving life into a man

Mid Life Crazy
06/10/05

To young to feel this way
Forty years old and going on twenty
Where's yesterday
Memories there are many
But to focus on the reality of time
To much for the mind
To comprehend at this early age
Must wait until tomorrow
To fill this page
Longing for those teenage years
With maturity coming clear
Right and wrong meaning more
Than they ever did
Trying to remember being a kid
No second thoughts
Just go for it
Without remorse or consequence
No more of this
To fill the days of this life
Each thought must now except
The consequence of each step
Must way the bad with the good
Look before I leap
I never would
In those days of summer lazy
Traded now
For mid life crazy

I Realize
06/24/05

Life's life that's a fact
There's no answer
Or question that
Can totally fulfill
The doubt the despair
The running out of hope to give
I realize philosophies
Are nothing new
Just hard to live
By one's own rules
No easy struggle
Trying to be right
Without being cruel
Where does it end and why even try
When even a wrong can be right
Even in defeat some victories are won
Each and every loss benefits some
I realize you may never know
Who you really are
Some call this insane
To define it much more
Would only attempt to confuse
Me or maybe you
Or maybe not whose to say
Do we ever really know
Whose predator or prey
Who do we trust and how much
With only a thin line
Between hate and love
Better to give than to receive
One philosophy
Without ego trips or greed
Born of necessity

I Love You Two
07/08/05

A lifetime ahead one day at a time
May they be filled with laughter
Rainbows and sunshine
Gifts from mother earth
To whom you belong
The sign of Taurus
Will make you strong
Stars in the heaven
Make up your design
Giving you a heart full of warmth
And a thoughtful mind
I know that you
have just begun to live
And don't understand
this amazing gift
That is yours for years to come
The moon the stars and the sun
Mother earth your apart of her now
Give her your heart and help her out
It's all in your future so much to do
Remember I love mother earth
And I love you two

Happy birthday precious son
You're now two but still the one
A part of my soul heart and mind
Now belong to you
Love always and forever
Papa Brian

A Taught Disease
07/22/05

Of all the diseases
in the world today
Indifference and racism
are taught I say
Your not born
with this disease
It's a product of hatred
and of greed
Through the generations
it's been taught
From all the wars
that are fought
It's not going away
anytime soon
This killer of hope
and breeder of doom
Open minds
are closed shut
By bigotry hate
and from lust
Being taught
in our society this way
Gives predators prey
They prey upon
our desires and thoughts
By breeding mistrust
compassion is lost hatred boils over
as bigotry overwhelms
Before you know it
the war ships sail
Man in all his wisdom knocked to his knees
Simply by a taught disease

The Following Hour
08/11/05

If tomorrow's sun should find me
searching around for you
Wondering where you've gone
and if we were through
I know I'd cry forever
but I'd have to say
You brought love and mercy
and helped me on my way
You've given me much more
than you could ever know
For this I would thank you
before I'd let you go

If tomorrow's sun should find me
a grieving soul for you
If God had come and taken
I'd pray he'd take me too
I know I'd cry forever
and I'd have to pray
God show me mercy
and take me today
No longer any purpose
I wouldn't want to live
In me no more mercy
I wouldn't have the will
I've asked God to grant me
at least one answered prayer
If you decide to take her
Take me the following hour

If tomorrow's sun should find you
wondering where I am
There should be no question
I'm up in heaven now
This the only reason
I wouldn't be right here
Death do us part
I promised you my dear
I've ask God to grant me
at least one more prayer
Take me before her
Or the following hour

Man And Space
08/29/05

Into the universe we want to fly
To see what's beyond
Our big blue sky
The stars above we see from here
The galaxies beyond
Are not so clear
A big black hole may be all
Space is unending we are told
Must be an eternity out there then
Where there will be no ills
Or folks living in sin
A place of peace
Not of this earth
Must be like heaven
This universe
We seek to find
Mere mortals in awe of life
Why it is how it begun
We think the answer
Is beyond the sun
Out there in space
Particles of dust
Cosmos of galaxies
All apart of us
Alien life forms
Who's to say
We've got our imagination
Our fascination
Our determination
To fly away
To another world
Of endless space

Mirrors In Time
09/30/05

Pictures from the past
Hauntingly real
Allot of time is spent
Looking back
Old photographs
Of lost loves
Pictures that move
Emotions in us
Old picture albums
Filled with this
Memories that were lost
Come flooding back
Hauntingly so
Like ghosts
Of long ago
Things that were forgotten
Now so real
Life's a mystery
But yet so dear
Precious memories
Caught on paper
Bring back to mind
Memories that are now
Mirrors in time

In Women And Men
10/15/05

The true character of a man
Or a woman as far as that goes
Is shown in the way they treat others
They don't know
The ones who can do absolutely nothing
Where there's nothing to gain
But maybe the alleviation
Of another's pain a helping hand
Without remorse or recourse
No seeking of glamour or fame
Just the sense of being kind
Doing unto others
The things he or she would like to find
In others they encounter throughout life
Just a smile a nod of the head
The sense of character
With nothing being said
A trusting look a jester of peace
A simple excuse me please
Yes sir and yes ma'am
Simple courtesy
Without feeling of shame
No sense of pride in the way
Nothing ventured nothing gained
Character's that way
It must be built out of will
And nurtured day by day
To obtain this great wealth
Excepting greater things
Than our self
Becoming a part of them
That's character
In women and men

Reflecting Back
10/30/05

To ignore the distant
Or most recent past
Is to breed repetition
Hindsight's twenty-twenty
History teaches
Learn from your mistakes
Do not repeat
Keep looking back
For as long as it takes
Do not forget
For if we do
The same mistakes
For me and you
Again and again
we'll fall short
Our future no better
Than it was before
History
The best teacher
And all we have
Reflecting back
