Bells A Ringing
12/06/03

Hear those bells, those silver bells
Christmas is here, Christmas is here, they yell
Oh- that jingle jingle, in snow a sprinkling
Up to heaven they jingle
Kindness in the heart, swells and swells
All from the jingling, of the bells
Just like a well written rhyme
In rhyme, they chime, keeping time
Ringing ringing, all through the night
Bells ringing, in delight, making all right
Reaching the twinkling, stars afar
Racing hearts, that are sometimes hard
They clang and clang, making hearts more
More more, making hearts more
Oh- listen to the tolling, of the bells
The ringing and singing, and all it compels
Feel the Glory, in their tolling
Their tolling, their tone, the throne their calling
Come hither, come hear, listen no sobbing
To appealing mercy, and hate robbing
To peace giving, and delight
Ringing, ringing, all through the night
Keeping time, making rhyme, being kind
Hear those bells, those bells, it's time
It's Christmas time
Golden bells, speaking harmony in rhyme
In tune, in time, the future it sells
Ringing in rhyme, that all is well
Oh- hear those mellow, mellow bells
All the happiness, they fortell
Hear the bells, silver bells, those musical bells
Hear their chime, speaking in rhyme
Peace on earth, it's time, it's time, this time
Santa jingling, the ringing, the children singing
Merry Christmas bells a ringing

High Tech List
12/16/03

Dear Santa,

I'm sending my wish list by email this year
Maybe then you can read it, it should be clear
I guess my scribbling last year you couldn't read
I didn't know, I thought it might have been my greed
Because I didn't get all the things on my list
So I'm emailing you a copy of what you missed
I'll go ahead and include this years wants too
So one email should do
I know you probably get allot of spam
Just stop by and I'll fix you some ham
If you fill my stockings, I'll leave milk and cookies too
Just bring my presents and see what I do
The first thing on my list is to tell Ivy Rose a friend
It's going to be a very Merry Christmas with her son home again
And could you go to Iraq and bring them all back home
We sure have missed them since they've been gone
Another one on my list Kathy Gandy
In her stocking put blessings and a big box of candy
And Betty Hattersley has been real good this year
Could you fill her stocking with what she holds most dear
I'd like to send Paul E. Berube something "If I Could"
A new fishing pole would be real good
James A. Osteen Jr has been writing quiet well
Keep his gift a secret, please don't tell
I know Peggy hasn't wrote in awhile
Please send her and email with a smile
Merry Christmas to April Broome
Please send her pencil and paper in hopes she'll write something soon
What would Christmas be without Hope
Send some candy canes and a cheerful note
Roy W. Crouch has had pen in hand
Send him more ideas if you can
Virginia Smith has seen heroes come home
Something extra nice for her memory of those that are gone
And the Editor of Purple Dream I'm knowing
Could use some elves to help keep this site growing
I know there are many more who deserve gifts at this site
But I have to leave room for my life, (my wife)
And my children and grandchildren too
You already know what gifts go to who
I know dear Santa that this list is a little a mess
But this year please don't delete my "High Tech List"

Thanks, Brain L. Davis.

Resolutions Two
01/02/04

'03 is done
'04 is to come
11:59 p.m.
60 seconds until
I start life anew
Carry each resolution through
Like last year I did do
I did loose weight
I rid my heart of hate
Birth of a new grandson
Put hate on the run
Done the Adkins diet
Made looking glass look twice
Oh-four how I plan
To be a better man
More charity in my heart
Giving me a giving start
Which will lead to lasting love
Something I need lots of
I'll be more forgiving
Not so judgemental
More kindness to strangers
Avoid unnecessary dangers
Be more affectionate with wife
Keep her close day and night
Make more time for Mom and Dad
Being proud to be their lad
Teach grandchildren the ways of old
Just as I was showed
Tell them I love them everyday
Find more time to pretend and play
Some things I cannot change
A mix of opposites in my brain
Old and young
Owe this to my grandsons
Liberal and conservative
My grandaughters deserve it
Old fashioned yet modern
To change this I want bother
It's now 12:01 a.m. 2004
On '03 I close the door
Only to do
Resolutions Two

Dance In Your Music
01/04/03

I hear the tempo
Visualize the scenes
Of your upbeat music
Soaring forward
As you tickle the ivories
The passion required
For such exquisite melodies
Feet tapping out rhythm
To this musical style
tenderly playing to my ears
Whispering dance like Fred Astaire
Dance to written love affairs
Across the ceiling
Over the floor
Like Ginger Rogers once more
Romantics conveyed a Lady In Red
Dancing with a sultry moon
Brown eyes maybe blue
If there's magic
I'll know soon
Whispering intimately to rhythmic seduction
Lips spilling words I conjure up
In a moonlit moment for two
A miracle unfolding
Under the seductive moon
A partner a vision
Music to my ears
Minds alike lovingly acquired
In tune like Frank Sinatra
Bette Middler too
A dance in your music
Magically her eyes were blue
Thanks to Hope and Ivy Rose too

New Beginning
01/12/04

Think your never wrong
Like casting the first stone
It's the same my friend
Who among us don't sin
A new year will make us judge
Ourselves to the core
For ways to do more
Thinking to change
We rack our brain
Our heart too
Only to go mind and soul
To the same old grind
Time after time
Resolutions in the wind
Until time again
To look at life anew
This years through
A new beginning
Will end our sinning
We tell ourself
To watch our health
Be kinder and sweeter
Just to end up bitter
From our short comings
We start running
Not to stop
Evaluate what we've got
Ajar the door of past
To mistakes of last
Not to self-inflict guilt
But focus our will
At residue of the old year
Zero in on resolutions past
How long did they last
Same cycle of history
Not a mystery
Fresh starts into false starts
Leaves hearts
Defeated and hopless
Discouraged from redoing, renewing
Using the same old tools
We simply fool our thinking
And let our own weakness
Bring to an ending
Our new beginning

Green Green Grass of Home
01/12/04

No matter where you may roam
You'll eventually miss the green grass of home
There's no escaping from your roots
No matter where you park your boots
It might be years before you get back
Home is not always where you hang your hat
You might call it that for awhile
Then you think of home with a smile
The green grass starts calling you
And getting home is all that'll do
The old hometown want look the same
Just like you it experienced change
The world outside want seem so big
Now that your roots can grow again
All of a sudden you start to feel whole
And being yourself becomes your goal
Realizing what you've been missing
The green grass you begin kissing
Breathing in it's smell and feeling it's touch
It's the one thing you've missed so much
Getting back you feel alive
And from now on you will strive
Strive to be the best you can
Your now a better woman or man
In your world it's not all about money
All of sudden monetary is funny
The meaning of life is clearer now
Remembering how grandpa showed you how
How you should bait your own hook
And how you should give life a second look
Don't be judgemental and sarcastic
And remember that life is like elastic
Stretch it to far and it will break
And good things come to those who wait
Your roots can grow where you may roam
But for them to grow ever so strong
They need the green green grass of home

Life Of A Tear
01/25/04

To test your affectionc
Or show your fear
The trickle of a tear
To look back
Upon the past
A tearful eye is cast
To the dearly departed
Tearful and broken-hearted
Over the names of these before
With silence and tears
To visit once more
Even as we retreat
We no again when we meet
Whether far or near
We'll meet again with a tear
Though sorrow seems to win
When death steps in
To sever for years
Leaving hearts bathed in tears
A day of trial to bear
Feeling guilt and despair
As hope again it springs
Comes soaring in on wings
Enjoying them as they fly
Merrily, merrily they go by
Leaving loss ever gentle
On my mind
Easing the mental fear
Part of the life of a tear

The Way You Are
02/07/04

Like the blast from gale force winds
You shake my heart, rattle my limbs
The kisses from your lips of desire
Builds my heart into a raging fire
Oh how I love the way you are
The greatest hope the sunniest hour
Has ever known
Oh lucky me has made his own
No dream is your master, salt of the earth
The world was blessed with your birth
This is you (gave your all)
Never give up (no looking back)
Friendship or love (gave all you had)
You are the day star, a lasting dream
You make roses bloom, you wear my ring
You the light of life, a spirit guide
In you all my fears, are laid aside
You the image on my spirit
My everything, my sizzling skillet
My sunlight above the flowers
A dream a vision, for all the hours
A burning fever, close or far
Oh how I love the way you are

Dedicated To My Light Of life, My Wife

A Roadside Memorial
02/23/04

In this humble town
A memorial coming down
The place where a teenager
Lost his life
A small cross where he died
Placed there by his grieving mother
Her only child no sister or brother
There are those who want it to stay
Others who just say nay
The local newspaper reads everyday
Someone else's opinion written
Some are quiet cold in a sentence
I've always kept inside my thought
Until my grandson's eye was caught
He noticed one of many along the road
To my astonishment a story he told
Papa did you know
People don't like memorials along a road
If I am killed will you mark the spot
I would want you to papa (allot)
It would show you loved, and missed me
A memorial for others to see
You mourn my death but celebrate my life
I'd do the same for you papa, if you crashed and died
It's hard to believe at this young age
He know's that memorials
Go beyond the grave
I can hardly write this without a tear
Losing him is my greatest fear
I myself now truly believe
That these monuments should be
That no state should take them down
This is now hallowed ground
Billboard signs are every where
So why not a flower planted in the dirt
Or on a cross a written name
To deny these (a crying shame)
As this is now my editorial
To a roadside memorial

Dedicated to all those lost along our roads.

The Old School
03/09/04

Traveling by the school of my youth
The foundation of the old school
Still standing strong and firm
So I pulled over to take a look at her
A builder myself I admired it's strength
You could still build along it's length
Back when life wasn't lived so fast
All foundations were built to last
They were built to withstand the test of time
Back when there was respect for the mind
This great old school only had one class
First through eighth for a matter of fact
The teachers there you gave no sass
Because if you did they'd tan your
You know what need I say more
We didn't know what a bully was
Everyone looked out for everyone
All the ages mixed together that way
Kept us from going to far astray
I remember when they tore the old girl down
Every face wore a frown
I only played a part for two years
But time catches up and old age nears
My roots in that foundation become so clear
Because after the demolition of the old was done
The foundation left standing looked lost and numb
I volunteered my dad to work the soil and plant
A row of beautiful flowers to fill in the blank
At that time he wasn't really pleased
His time was full he had a family to feed
But being the man he is and was
He brought out the tools and in the ground he dug
Brought to life the most perfect bulbs and seeds
Now he is so thankful for those deeds
Standing here now I feel those roots grow
Knowing the old foundation has survived it all
It made it through the widening of the road
And did not change
The blizzards of snow and pouring rain
Praying the new school can do the same
With bullying, hazing, and bigotry
Things the old school would just set free
In this day and time with life lived so fast
I'm so glad for this foundation of the past
Where I can come and just reminisce
About a time I'm so proud I didn't miss
Where all the boys and the girls
Were taught to value their morals
Were always trying to re-invent the tool
Maybe we should just re-build
The Old School
